If you are a computer programmer, which language makes most money? SQL? C++?

My son (high school) wants to learn computer languate to get a good job. Which language is good?

Learning programming is better. (How do you learn to write a great novel? By studying French or by studying novel writing?) C++ includes SQL, if the C++ program is being used to access a database. A C programmer who can't handle databases is limited, as is a SQL programmer who can't write applications. Although the latter is more common.

Wirth's "Algorithms + Data Structures = Programs" is a good place to start. (Look on Amazon.com.)
Reply:I'd say he should get in to web development with PHP and SQL (and with those it would make loads of sense to learn X/HTML and CSS). I've been doing it for a few years... it's fun and probably the most widely used language on the web.

After that, Java and C++ are probably the most widely used languages for computer programs (not the web).

EDIT: Thomas is right about multiple languages... in order to do my job right I have to know XHTML (and HTML), CSS, PHP, JavaScript, SQL, DHTML, some Python, and Ruby On Rails.
Reply:my brother does c++ now and hes a freshman in highschool, it really depends on what you are doing and you might have to know more than one language, but i believe Java is the most commonly used.
Reply:c++
Reply:Computer languages come and go, todays best paid programmers are JAVA, SQL, COBOL (for DB2 on maiframes).

C++ is recommended only for system programmers (os development, driver development, and so on...)

It's easy to get a job been an SQL programmer.

But with the right job a C++ programmer can earn more money.
Reply:The spanish language because it is frequently used all over the world, than any other language, except of course english. After that comes either french or italian.
